First Impressions: The Liar and His Lover

I’m honestly not a big fan of dramas that are adaptations or recreated from mangas because I just think that the plots usually flop and the characters aren’t as interesting and deep. I started watching because of Joy and Lee Hyun Woo, but I’m not necessarily a big fan of the plot or Lee Hyun Woo. I don’t know if it’s because I never really liked him as an actor or his pretty face distracts me or I just don’t like his character in this drama. I know he’s the main character but he seems a little despicable and when that happens, I feel like you have trouble connecting with the character (see: Entourage). I do hope that we get some character development because that’s what I always like.

Regarding the plot, I’m not loving it so far. I don’t feel like there’s a real plot line and the plot is just unnecessarily set up. But since it is an adaptation, producers rarely tweak the plot line. I feel like Joy’s character and the whole “love at first sight” thing is so stupid. I know there’s supposed to be a love line between the two characters, but she’s in high school and how old is Han Gyeol supposed to be? Besides the several parts I roll my eyes to, it’s a cute music-related drama for anyone who’s into that (we all know I’m not), but maybe I’ll continue watching it? Who knows, maybe I need some change in genre in my life.
